Inspiration

Illustrations one of the most primitive mediums of communication and an ancient genre of art. Illustration has been in practice of the human race even before the words and languages were invented and Egyptian hieroglyphics is one such example. Illustration art offers artists a certain kind of freedom of expression. From comics to character-making, illustration has its strong impact in the individual as well as commercial designing.

Many years ago businesses used to feel unpleased at using illustration sin their marketing materials. However, today, the use and influence of illustrations is growing right along. Unlike simple graphic designers, who develop logos, brochures, post cards, business cards and similar communication, Illustration designers are frequently expected to create lively, character-driven illustrations with personality and often a touch of humor. Using color illustrations on printed flyers can help create buzz for a nightclub event, a grand opening, or a sale.

Illustration designers use their skills to create images that represent specific concepts. Although manual illustration has its own classic charm, artists who are skilled in digital illustration design are also in demand. These digital illustration artists make use of vector illustration or the illustration software to make illustrations for their communication material.

Tips to Improve Your Illustration Skills

Brainstorm

In order to improve your illustration skills, brainstormingis way too important. If you are stuck with a project and you don’t know what to do, you can create mind maps and word lists. In this scenario, all you need to do is create a list of important words which are related to your subject and then you can shortlist a few best words. Later on you can create sketchesof those words to see which one looks the best.

Internet is one place where you can find anything and almost everything. If you want to work on brainstorming, you will have plenty of online applications. However, making sketches on a paper will be more convenient as you will have the freedom of creativity as well. Freedom in creativity helps a lot in improving your illustration skills.

Keep on Sketching

Whenever you have time on your hands, all you need to do is get a plain paper, pencil and start sketching. This is one of the best ways to improve your illustration skills. This will help you a lot in coming up with something new, unique and creative. Do not focus a lot on being creative; in fact go with the flow. Keep on drawing whatever comes into your mind even if it is a dot. Let your mind produce the ideas and let your hands flow with them and make something extremely creative on a paper which was blank. Random sketching is a great way to improve illustration skills.

Mistakes – A blessing in Disguise

We have often heard that a person learns from his mistakes. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. If you will try too hard to be perfect, you won’t be able to come up with even an average thing. The key is to learn and you can only do that by trying and trying again. You do not have to prove yourself to be the next Leonardo da Vinci. Instead of trying to be perfect, draw something extremely unusual just for the sake of experimenting. You might end up surprising yourself by creating something extra ordinary. Remember, all the master pieces were rough sketches at one of point of time with a lot of mistakes. So, you need to understand the fact that sometimes even mistakes can be a blessing in disguise.

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly

While sketching, it is not necessary that you have to draw something flawless. You can even draw the worst possible designs in order to come up with something exceptionally well. Do not stick to good things only. Give some importance to ugly stuff as well because drawing ugly stuff will clear the blockage in your mind. It will be stress reliever and later on you can actually come up with something extra ordinary.

Anything, Everything & Everywhere

You will have to fall in love with the concept of sketchingonly then you can improve your illustration skills. Be passionate about whatever you sketch. In order to fall in love with sketching, sketch anything, sketch everything and sketch everywhere. You will not only learn from this but will enjoy a lot. You can sketch on papers, napkins, card boards etc. Draw the first thing that comes to your mind. Don’t hesitate and do not think as to how it will look. Experimenting will always lead to something new.

Experimentation

The only way to find out what works best for you is to experiment. If you will continue to ignore things from the fear of mistakes, you won’t be able to learn anything. Try different things to sketch for instance, pencils, pens or water colors. This will help you in understanding which thing helps you the most in your creativity.

A person can never improve if he is not willing to experiment. The only way to improve illustration skills is constantly trying, drawing, sketchingand coming up with something extra ordinary. Once you dare to experiment, you will be amazed at your own creativity. Not everybody is a born illustrator however, with the passage of time; people can learn and be really good at it.  Remember, a website is like a puzzle and your pieces of illustrations will put puzzles into pieces. So, do your best and bring out the most creative illustrationsof yours without hesitation.
